World Music Concert with Suhail Yusuf and Amit Kavthekar

Join us for a live concert of classical music from North India, featuring Suhail Yusuf Khan on sarangi and Amit Kavthekar on tabla. Khan is a Ph.D. candidate in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University. He bases his research on his personal experience as an eighth-generation musician belonging to a lineage of Hindustani musicians that includes his legendary grandfather, Ustad Sabri Khan. Kavthekar, a versatile tabla player based in Boston area, studied under the illustrious tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha and his son, Ustad Zakir Hussain. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Creative and Performing Arts, the Music and Dance Department, and the Commonwealth Honors Program. Admission is free. Suggested donation of $10 at the door in to support scholarships for music students. Advance registration is highly recomended as seating is limited. Attendees are expected to follow Salem State COVID-19 Safety Protocols. Masks are required indoors on the Salem State campus. Our venue capacities are reduced.
