SUMMARY:World Music Concert with Suhail Yusuf and Amit Kavthekar
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a live concert of classical music from North India\, featuring Suhail Yusuf Khan on sarangi and Amit Kavthekar on tabla. Khan is a Ph.D. candidate in Ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University. He bases his research on his personal experience as an eighth-generation musician belonging to a lineage of Hindustani musicians that includes his legendary grandfather\, Ustad Sabri Khan. Kavthekar\, a versatile tabla player based in Boston area\, studied under the illustrious tabla maestro Ustad Allarakha and his son\, Ustad Zakir Hussain. This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Creative and Performing Arts\, the Music and Dance Department\, and the Commonwealth Honors Program. Admission is free. Suggested donation of $10 at the door in to support scholarships for music students. Advance registration is highly recomended as seating is limited. Attendees are expected to follow Salem State COVID-19 Safety Protocols. Masks are required indoors on the Salem State campus. Our venue capacities are reduced. We ask that you not attend any event if you are feeling unwell. All campus event attendees are expected to follow university policies (including health and safety policies) and posted instructions while at any of our venues.
