Free Gables' admission for Beverly residents Feb. 25
The House of the Seven Gables is pleased to invite Beverly residents to a full day of free admission and lively guided tours of the celebrated house made famous by Salem author Nathaniel Hawthorne and his novel, "The House of the Seven Gables." Beverly Welcome Home Day is Sunday, February 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Beverly residents may explore the 2.5-acre National Historic Landmark District site including the Colonial Revival Gardens and a beautiful waterfront vista unparalleled in Salem. Other structures on the property include the house where Hawthorne was born on July 4, 1804, and lived as a child. The 1655 Retire Beckett House, also known as the Museum Store, is stocked with gift items unique to the historic site. Those taking the house tour will enjoy hearing stories of two prosperous merchant families, the Turners and Ingersolls. They resided in the house before it was purchased and restored by philanthropist Caroline Emmerton. The house is noted for its display of some of the earliest Georgian-style interiors. Pieces owned by Hawthorne and his family are on display in the house, as well as furnished mid-18th-century rooms. The House of the Seven Gables is located at 115 Derby Street in Salem, Massachusetts. Some onsite parking is available. Beverly residents and their families are asked to bring valid identification to enjoy this special day.
