Ribbon Cutting for The Sea Wych!
The Sea Wych Salem started as a love letter to the ocean and the world’s waterways, a way for its founder, Phe Needham, to not only share her practice as a non-theist sea witch, but also offer a gift to sea and water witches in Salem and far beyond its shores. The dream began in a lone aqua colored vending tent on the Salem Common during Haunted Happenings Marketplace 2023, selling handcrafted ritual tools and ocean decor made from items sourced and foraged ethically from local area beaches.
From that starting point, the momentum grew into a tidal wave, leading to the opening of the first brick and mortar shop on the second floor of historic One Derby Square. That space served as a sheltered lagoon, allowing the business to learn, grow, and evolve in the relative safety of a small shop that, although seemingly front and center in the heart of downtown Salem, still felt like a true hidden gem.
With this move to a first-floor Essex Street storefront, it is time for The Sea Wych Salem to leave the shelter of the tide pools and lagoon and move into the open ocean, where it can grow and thrive. This growth would not have been possible without the support of the Salem community that has guided, encouraged, and promoted it along the way. To both new and loyal returning customers and clients, and to the city that has embraced The Sea Wych Salem, heartfelt thanks are extended. Growth is not possible without that support. This next chapter in the story of The Sea Wych Salem is an exciting one, and deep gratitude is felt for everyone who has chosen to be part of the journey.
