When is the Polar Plunge?
Saturday, January 31st 2026What Time Should I Arrive? ??
Registration & check-in open at 8:45 AM and the plunge kicks off at 10:00 AM sharp. Make sure to arrive early and check in!
What Should I Bring? ??
Bring a towel, foot protection (water shoes, old sneakers, or Crocs), a bag for your wet clothes, warm clothes to change into, and your brave, stigma-fighting self! We are plunging off a boat ramp so there are risks of stepping on sharp shells, rocks, etc. PLEASE do not forget your foot protection!Bathrooms & Changing Spaces? ??
The Winter Island Function Hall (to the right of the boat ramp) will be open with bathrooms and heated changing areas — complete with a cozy fireplace! You’ll also find changing pods under the heated registration tents.Safety Measures? ??
Your safety is our top priority. Volunteers from the fire department, EMTs, and the Salem Harbor Master will be on-site. All participants must sign a safety waiver upon registration.Food & Entertainment? ??
Yes, we’ve got you covered! Enjoy breakfast treats, hot chocolate, coffee, and water before. Stick around for music, raffles, swag tables, and plenty of warm seating in the function hall!First Time? No Problem! ??
You’re not alone! Take the plunge at your own comfort level. A quick dip or full submersion, it all counts.
Feeling nervous? Reach out! We’ve all been there and are happy to chat before you dive in.Important Safety Reminders ??
Please know the signs of cold stress and hypothermia:Cold stress: Shivering but alert; Mild hypothermia: Vigorous shivering, less coordination; Moderate hypothermia: Weak or no shivering, confusion; Severe hypothermia: Stiffness, slowed breathing, or unresponsiveness
Other Questions? We’re Here for You! ??
E-mail us at info@mentalmakeovertoday.orgJump in the ocean? In the middle of winter?! WHY?
?? Plunge Into Purpose: Feel the rush of adrenaline and the warmth of doing something that matters. Facing freezing water isn’t exactly cozy, just like opening up about mental health can feel uncomfortable. But with courage, connection, and community, we can all get comfortable being uncomfortable together.
?? Mind & Body Boost: This chill isn’t just for thrills! Polar plunging can help reduce inflammation, improve mood, boost metabolism, and even support your immune system. Freezing for a cause might be good for you in more ways than one.
?? Team Spirit: Round up your friends, family, or coworkers and take the plunge as a team! Rock matching outfits, goofy costumes, or themed gear… whatever shows off your spirit and creativity!
?? Community Connection: Feel the energy of a community coming together for something bigger than ourselves. Surround yourself with love, laughter, and support from fellow plungers and spectators. Connect with local mental health advocates, explore resources, and remember, you’re never in this alone.
? Post-Plunge Warmth: Warm up and wind down with our indoor fireplace, hot cocoa, snacks, raffles, and music. Share your plunge stories, celebrate your bravery, and mingle with like-minded souls.
