Have you ever noticed that our local beaches vary from sand, gravel, mud or sometimes boulders? And that each beach is different? What causes these variations? How and why does each beach respond differently to storm activity? In this lively presentation sponsored by Salem Sound Coastwatch, Dr. Lindley Hanson, Professor of Geology at Salem State University, will describe the variability and dynamics of the beaches on the North Shore. She will explain what causes variations in the beaches and why each beach respond differently to storm activity. She will also show evidence of a higher sea level in our past and will discuss the future of our beaches with expected sea level rise. information, 978-741-7900 or info@salemsound.org
