SALEM — No need to burrow! Winter at The House of the Seven Gables is family-friendly, with lots to do while warm and cozy. The staff at The Gables have come up with some especially fun ways to spend a few wintry days. New winter rates make it easy for families to tour the 350-year-old mansion together. Families can also try their hand at construction techniques like those used to build Salem’s beloved mansion. Vacation Week Workshops Kids visiting The House of the Seven Gables during February School Vacation week — from Saturday, February 16, through Sunday, February 24 — are in for a special treat. The Gables plans to offer fun, hands-on workshops that explore how historic houses, like the 350-year-old Gables, were built. Kids and their families are invited to experiment with a variety of historic construction techniques using popular building toys. These Constructing History workshops will be held between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The family-friendly programs are free with regular paid admission. Free House Tours for the Kids This winter, children and students are invited to tour The House of the Seven Gables free of charge when they accompany an adult. Kids really enjoy touring The House of the Seven Gables. They like hearing dramatic stories about the mansion’s seafaring residents and they like to see, up close, what life was like for Salem’s wealthiest residents even before the witchcraft trials. The legendary secret staircase is part of the popular tour. Two children or students may take a free house tour when they come with an adult or senior who has paid full-price admission. This offer is good for daily tours through March 31, 2019. Please note that there is a limit of four free children or students per party.
