Salem Sound Coastwatch is hosting a walk and talk around the large and beautiful salt marsh located behind Salem State University’s Central Campus. Once an urban, industrial dumping ground, this restored marsh provides a refuge for diverse wildlife. Egrets and herons regularly visit the marsh to feed on the plentiful fish, shrimp, clamworms and amphipods that live in the water and vegetation. As we walk around the perimeter of the marsh, we’ll talk about the plants, fish, birds and insects that live in the marsh, and the role the marsh plays in our coastal ecosystem. Plan to walk approximately 1/2 mile on a paved path. Family-friendly.
