Salem Art Gallery Exhibits Zach Brown's Strange Familiars
Salem Art Gallery is proud to announce the opening of their Mid-Winter exhibition, Strange Familiars: Selected Works of Zach Brown. The public is invited to the reception party at the gallery’s 64 Bridge St. location, on Saturday, February 8, 6-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served and there is no cost to attend. The Strange Familiars exhibit will consist of a selection of paintings from Pennsylvania artist Zach Brown, that are in-line with Salem Art Gallery’s famed macabre aesthetic and penchant for controversial and ground- breaking works. The exhibition will be on display, with pieces available to purchase, until April 8, 2020. Zach Brown, who obtained his bachelor’s in fine arts from the Rhode Island School of Design and his master’s in fine arts from New York Academy of Art, has had his art exhibited at the Pittsburg Center for the Arts (2019) and has been featured in contemporary art magazine, Hi-Fructose (2017). Zach Brown offers this insight into his work: “My paintings combine traditional techniques and materials with formal design. The work puts the illusion of representational painting against the reality of the material and the painting as an object. This duality is also seen in the mixing of contemporary and ancient subject matter found in my work. The visual themes focus on the subjects of history, myth, and mortality.” Salem Art Gallery is also the International Headquarters for The Satanic Temple, and home to their infamous Baphomet statue, as well as other art and media related to the organization’s culture and world-wide campaigns. The gallery features an occult library, throne room, gift shop and hosts an assortment of events throughout the year, along with its seasonal artist exhibits.
